Looking Ahead: What to Expect from ProGet, BuildMaster, and Otter in 2025

Posted on .

As we near the final quarter of the year, we’re excited to share some of our upcoming plans. Later this year, we’ll officially publish our 2025 roadmap following the releases of BuildMaster 2024 and Otter 2024. But for now, we wanted to give you a bit of a sneak peek at what we’re working on, especially with ProGet. This includes more new feeds, as well as improvements in ProGet’s SCA capabilities, and a switch over to PostgreSQL.

šŸŽÆ A Focus on ProGet Feeds

Get ready for way more feeds in the coming months! The new indexing system we launched with ProGet 2023 has made it much easier to roll out new feed types in our maintenance releases. So far, we’ve added Ā R/CranĀ andĀ Pub (Flutter/Dart), and in ProGet 2024, we’re planning to add the following:

These have all been added based on your feedback we’ve seen on our forums, and are aiming to roll them out by the end of the year.

We’re always working on making our products better, and ProGet is going to be a major focus for 2025. With all the changes happening in package management and open-source software, we’re committed to keeping up with the industry’s needs and delivering a product that meets them.

šŸ“ˆ Enhancing SCA Capabilities

When it comes to ProGet’s Software Composition Analysis (SCA) features, we figure there’s still plenty of room for improvement and are working closely with users to make them even better. Some of these updates might roll out as previews in ProGet 2024, or will be saved for ProGet 2025. Either way, we aim to keep improving workflows and make SCA a core strength of ProGet.

Have you had a chance to try out these new features? What do you think? Hop on our forums and let us know!

šŸ› ļøPlatform Evolution: Embracing PostgreSQL

Looking ahead, we’re making a big shift in platform support by shifting ProGet to PostgreSQL to offer more flexibility and scalability to meet our users’ growing needs. You’ll see some preview and testing features in ProGet 2024, and by 2025, PostgreSQL will be the default database.

Fear not though, both databases will be supported for at least two major releases to allow for a smooth transition. Having said that, some features may be exclusive to PostgreSQL after ProGet 2026. You can read our announcement to learn more about this. Better yet, why not reach out to us on our forums and let us know if you have any thoughts or questions about the big switch!

What’s Next?

We’re really excited about what’s ahead for ProGet, BuildMaster, and Otter. Our teams are hard at work making these changes happen, and we can’t wait to share more when we release the full 2025 roadmap later this year!

Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, we’d love to hear your feedback as we shape the future of our products together!
